Natural attractions in the Bohemian Paradise
The landscape of the Bohemian Paradise is one of the symbols of our country. Various sandstone rock towns with pine, forests, deep valleys, streams, ponds, meadows, picturesque villages and many castles and palaces are the typical setting of this imaginary paradise.
The Bohemian Paradise is the oldest protected area of the Czech Republic as it was proclaimed already in 1955. It has recently been announced the first UNESCO Geopark in the Czech Republic. You can find there deposits of precious stones and other rare minerals, extinct volcanoes and captivating corners, towers of a few rock towns, but also places of distant views from the tops of surrounding peaks of the hills and observation towers. This balanced landscape - "happy country" - rightly deserves its name Bohemian Paradise.
Jičín - Libosad
Between Jičín and Libosad there is a wonderful four-row lime wood avenue, 1.7 km long, with more than 1000 trees. Libosad, with its Baroque villa built by Albrecht of Valdštejn, is a 2 hectare protected park with rare broad-leaf trees.
Jinolické rybníky (Jinolické ponds)
A group of recreational ponds - Oborský rybník (Oborský pond), Němeček and Vražda are located in the picturesque surroundings below Prachovské skály (Prachovské Rocks). Owing to their sandy bed and grassy and sandy shores, two of the largest ponds provide the opportunity for swimming and water sports.
Prachovské skály (Prachovské Rocks)
A remarkable rock town in the easternmost part of Český ráj. Romantic labyrinth of thin sandstone towers and pillars, plateaus, ravines and chasms, with a large network of sign-posted tourist routes and numerous observation points from the rock formations.
Údolí Plakánek (Plakánek Valley)
To the south of Kost castle there is a two kilometre long valley with a range of side dells festooned with interesting sandstone rock structures and caves, wetlands and rare vegetation. Nature reservation.
